In Summary

  • President Ruto placed bet on France in the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals whereas First Lady Rachel Ruto and their children were supporting Argentina.
  • Ruto has been asked to honour the bet but is conflicted on how to pay as Hustler Fund has "denied" him money.

President William Ruto is pondering on how to pay a bet he made with First Lady Rachel Ruto and their kids. On Sunday, December 18 during the final match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Ruto placed his money on France whereas the rest of the family supported Argentina.

"Supporting the African team in the world Cup finals. Good luck Rachel & kids as you support the other side. Remember to pay the bet!! Either way, expecting fine football," he wrote on his Twitter account.

Argentina went on to clinch football's most prestigious trophy, albeit on post-match penalties after a nervy 3-3 draw in extra time.

"Bill, pay your bill!"

After the match, Rachel congratulated Argentina and Lionel Messi, but was quick to remind the President to pay up.

"I want to join the rest of the world in congratulating the Argentina National Football Team, Captained by Lionel Messi, for winning the 2022 World Cup tournament. Wear your three stars with pride! Bill, pay your bill!" She said.

Ruto however appears "conflicted" about where he will get money to repay the debt. He says that the Hustler Fund has denied him money.

"The First Lady and my kids are pushing me to pay my bet, but the Hustler Fund has denied me money," he jests.

"The chicken I rare will have to save me," he adds.
