Prime suspect in murder of city consultant Dr. Gerishon Mwiti arrested

Detectives in Nairobi have arrested the main suspect behind the gruesome murder of an 81-year-old city consultant Dr. Gerishon Mwiti.

Bernard Kioko was smoked out of his hideout in Mabatini in Mathare on Wednesday, January 18 afternoon after engaging detectives in a hide-and-seek game from Mwingi in Kitui County.

Kioko - who was a gardener at Dr. Mwiti’s home - has been on the run since Saturday last week.

The lifeless body of Mwiti was found by his son lying in a pool of blood on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Thigiri Ridge in Westlands, Nairobi County with a deep cut on the back of his head.

Mwiti's wife Gladys said that Kioko had called her and requested her to talk to her husband as they were not agreeing over a matter that he (Kioko) did not disclose but she told him to solve their issues.

20 minutes later, and after making numerous calls that went unanswered, Gladys decided to walk to the garden to establish what the problem was.

Unfortunately for her, she was met with a rude shock when she found the lifeless body of her husband on the ground with blood oozing from the back of his head.

The already frightened Gladys called her son who immediately notified the police and a manhunt operation was launched.
