Three children killed in separate house fires in Kabete

A sombre mood has engulfed Uthiru, Mûthûre and Wangige villages in Kabete Constituency, Kiambu County, after three children lost their lives when their houses were razed down by fire.

Romano Gakenia (9) and Obadiah Maina (4) from Uthiru village, and another child from Wangige perished on Monday, January 23 night.

Property worth thousand of shillings was also reduced to ashes.

The house in Uthiru caught fire when one of the parents to the children had gone to the shops.  In the second incident, a night coffee vendor had left for work, leaving the children alone.

Residents condemned the delays of fire fighters from the County Government of Kiambu, demanding that an emergency response station be constructed in their nearby towns to avert more loses in future.

Confirming the incidents, Kabete sub-County Police Commander Joseph Muriuki said sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation have commenced investigations to unearth the genesis of the infernos.
