Pastor Dorcas Rigathi on Tuesday visited the National Youth Service (NYS) facilities in pursuit of a partnership in implementing her agenda for Kenya.
The wife of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua patronised the NYS Headquarters and Textile Government Training Institute (TGTI) in Ruaraka, Nairobi, and the NYS Yatta Farms in Machakos County.
She expressed concern over the continued negligence of the boy child in the country as focus has shifted to the girl child. She noted that this has contributed to insecurity in the country.
“Culturally we have a big issue that we need to take up and change where a boy is put up there and told never to cry, not to show emotions, never to talk.... they only know what not to do but not what to do. The girl child on the other hand is taken care of by the society... but I ask 'who is going to marry them?'"
The Second Lady insisted that this narrative must change in the country.
“That’s why am here because I want to see how my boys can be housed here and they are given that moral compass so that we get back on track," she said.
Gachagua challenged Kenyans of good will to participate in fighting the drug abuse menace in the country, terming it one of the biggest challenges facing the youth.
NYS council chairman Lt. Gen Rtd Njuki Mwaniki pledged to support the initiative saying it will not only help in curbing unemployment but also bring up a responsible society.
NYS Director General Matilda Sakwa was also present.
