The Nairobi Hospital has released a statement on Prof. George Magoha's passing.

Chief Executive Officer James Nyamongo in a memo to all Admitting Staff says Prof. Magoha collapsed at home and was rushed to the Hospital's accident and emergency department.

"Efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful," says Nyamongo. "Kindly join me in condoling with his family and colleagues."

A family friend Prof Walter Mwanda later told reporters that Prof. Magoha knew his time was up before he died.

"He collapsed four times before breathing his last and in between, he told his wife that his time had come and he was at peace."

The immediate former Education Cabinet Secretary had only recently joined Maseno University as a professor of Surgery at the School of Medicine.

He had a long career in the medical and administration fields. He was a former Vice-Chancellor at the University of Nairobi [2005 – 2015] and chairman of the Kenya National Education Council.

In early December, the Magoha family lost another brother Alex Nyabera who died in Allen, Texas, USA.

His burial is slated for January 28, 2023.

Prof. Magoha is survived by widow Dr Barbra Magoha and son Michael Magoha.
