Police in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County have rearrested one of the two suspects who escaped from a police station and made away with a firearm.

During the Friday evening operation, the officers from Shikhendu Police Station captured Daniel Wanjala Sindani with a stolen AK47 rifle loaded with 14 bullets. Upon examination, police confirmed it was the one stolen from their armoury.

The 28-year-old was apparently arrested following a tip off from the public.

Sindani alongside another suspect, Samuel Wafula Barasa, broke out from the cells on Thursday morning between 3am and 5am. They took away the rifle loaded with 14 rounds of 7.62mm.

The two allegedly broke the wooden ceiling before cutting through the iron sheet roof. The daring thugs then crept into the report office where they broke into the steel box armoury and made away with the AK47 rifle.

Following the incident, two officers who were on duty that day were detained for leaving the report office unmanned at the time of the escape. Apparently, the officers had rushed to their houses, located within the police station premises, for sometime.

According to the police, the escapees had been arrested on accusations of stealing two cows and were due for arraignment on January 26.

A manhunt for Samuel Wafula Barasa is ongoing. Police said they are probing how the jailbreak occurred.
