Tragic: Sad ending for Nakuru couple as all five newborns die

All the five babies born to a youthful Nakuru couple on Tuesday evening have died. 

Nakuru Level V Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Aisha Maina confirmed to TV47 Digital the news of the babies' passing. 

The babies were delivered at seven months and were on life support at incubators. The four girls and one boy weighed between 500 grams and 650 grams at birth.

At this birth weight, chances of survival are slim since even the internal organs are not full developed, said the Superintendent. 

“We have received the shocking news that the babies have passed on. The family is devastated and in shock. The hospital authorities told us that two of the quintuplets had died Thursday morning, and the other three in the afternoon,” said Monica Kinyanjui, a sister to the father.

The miracle birth to young parents Simon Ndung'u Kinyanjui and his wife Margaret Wairimu had been met with outpouring of good wishes from Kenyans on social media. 

Kinyanjui said he was "thankful to God for being given this chance."

"Nashukuru Mungu sana kwa kunipea hii chance kwa sababu ni wengi sana wanatafuta watoto usiku na mchana. Wengine wanaiba, wengine wanaenda kwa wachawi lakini mimi nimepewa na Mungu bure," he said outside the Margaret Kenyatta Mother Baby Wing of Nakuru Level V Hospital where the babies were. 

This is not the first time that birth of quintuplets was being recorded in Kenya. In April 2021, Douglas Nyaoko and Sellah Nyanchera welcomed five babies at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
