Kisumu: Form Three boy, 19, hacked to death during 'disco matanga' fight

Police in Kisumu have launched a manhunt operation for suspects linked with the murder of a form three student during a disco matanga event over the weekend.

Elvis Omondi, 19, a student at Kowidi Mixed Secondary in Kabondo Kasipul succumbed to injuries sustained from panga cuts on Saturday, February 4 night.

The deceased - who hails from Kabondo Kasipul Constituency in Homa Bay County - had together with some friends attended a night disco at Kakolasiany village in the neighboring Nyakach Constituency in Kisumu County. However, a melee reportedly ensued between him and the suspects.

Confirming the incident, Kodhoch West location chief Charles Dete says that the deceased had panga cuts on the head, stomach, arms, and back.

"The assailants carried and dumped an unconscious Elvis in Kabondo Kasipul before they ran away," Dete says.

Good Samaritans who saw his body rushed him to Ramula Sub-County Hospital for treatment where he was referred to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital but succumbed on the way.

His body has since been transferred to Okita mortuary in Kabondo Kasipul.

Meanwhile, area police boss Justus Kucha has warned members of the public against attending disco matanga's terming them illegal.

"Disco matanga is illegal. We’re looking for the suspects to record statements over the death," Kucha says.
