Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has launched a scathing attack on Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his remarks likening government to a company with shares.

In Summary

  • Speaking in Kericho on Sunday February 19, DP Gachagua said those who supported President William Ruto's candidature during the August 2022 general election have the largest number of shares in the Kenya Kwanza government, thus are in the front line of reaping dividends.

Sasa lazima mvune.....wakati wa kuvuna ndio huu," he said.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is just honest and telling Kenyans that Kenya Kwanza government is running a company, not a state, this is according to Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo.

Maanzo accused the President William Ruto-led government of promoting tribalism in the manner in which they have done their appointments, with Central and Rift Valley regions getting the lion's share of state appointments.

"Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is very honest, they are running a company and not a government. We are heading to a situation where you want to tribalize the country. What they are saying with their mouths is not what is in the heart.

'You say Kenya is free for everybody but from what he is saying is that Kenya is for two tribes; Central and Rift Valley. Anybody else does not matter," Senator Maanzo said in an interview with a local TV channel on Monday, February 20 morning.

The senator said that Kenya is now facing a tribalism crisis which must be tackled.

"We must really detribalise the country for real so if you are running a company and not a government then he (Gachagua) is very honest and he is telling us what exactly they did and Kenyans should be aware what sort of rulers we have. Every Kenyan should be given an equal opportunity."

Gachagua's sentiments

Speaking in Kericho on Sunday February 19, DP Gachagua said those who supported President William Ruto's candidature during the August 2022 general election have the largest number of shares in the Kenya Kwanza government, thus are in the front line of reaping dividends.

"Hii serikali ni kampuni na ni ya shares. Kuna wenye kampuni, wale wako na shares mingi, kuna wale wako na chache (na) kuna wale hawana. Sasa nyinyi mli-invest kwa hii kampuni ya William Ruto na Rigathi Gachagua. Sasa lazima mvune.....wakati wa kuvuna ndio huu."

(This government is like a company with shareholders...there are those with majoriry shares, others with minority, and others without. Since you invested in this company of William Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua, you must reap...this is the time for reaping where you sowed."

And in what seemed like taking a stab at opposition members of parliament who have been warming up to the Kenya Kwanza administration, DP Gachagua said they are at the bottom of the pecking order. This government is a company that has shares.

Furore has greeted the remarks so far.
