Detectives launch manhunt for owner of illegal vodka distillery

Detectives in Nairobi have launched a manhunt for a trader who has allegedly been manufacturing and selling counterfeit alcoholic drinks.
David Musila, says the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, is the proprietor of the business which has been operating from a go-down at Khims Business Park, Athi-River in Machakos County.
On Tuesday Feb. 21, detectives raided the go-down and seized a consignment of counterfeit alcoholic drinks affixed with fake KRA stamps.
Hundreds of cartons containing thousands of bottles of Blue Mountain Vodka destined for the local market were also seized.
Police also found over 4,500 litres of ethanol stored in drums, alcohol storage tanks, empty bottles and stickers, among other items related to the manufacturing of the vodka which is popular amongst the youth.
Sixteen suspects were arrested at the premises in the raid conducted by DCI and officials from the Kenya Revenue Authority.
