In Summary

  • UDA says it has 5,325 registered members in Kisumu County.
  • The county's electorate overwhelmingly gravitate towards UDA's political rival ODM and its leader Raila Odinga.

United Democratic Alliance has taken its membership registration drive to Kisumu County.

Newly-installed party Secretary General Cleophas Malala says his first port of call will be to meet the 5,400 registered members on Saturday, March 4.

Kisumu is the political bedroom of UDA’s political foe the Orange Democratic Movement and its leader Raila Odinga.

Raila, who also heads the Azimio La Umoja coalition of parties says he does not recognize the administration of President William Ruto, who ascended to the highest office on a UDA party ticket in the August 2022 general election.

“We have so far registered 5,325 members in Kisumu County….my first assignment will be to meet these members,” says Malala. “The party has rolled out mass registration of new members and you’ll soon be witnessing county interactions.”

In Kisumu, Malala will also commission the new UDA party offices. “Watu wa Dala, karibisheni UDA party….tunakuja kule and we shall have an event of its kind. Kisumu is going to be painted yellow (UDA party colours).

Malala was appointed earlier this week to replace Veronica Maina in the position of Secretary General. “The bar has been set high and the responsibility before me is not light and I am up to the task," said Malala.

"With the support of the Secretariat and all party organs, I will fully adopt and embrace the vision of our party leader that is, to make UDA the greatest party of all time and an institution that will outlive its leadership and generations to come,” he added.
