In an incident that has shocked many, a child is fighting for his life after suffering brutality at hands of his mother.

Doctors say the one-and-a-half-year-old baby is in need of an urgent surgery after they discovered that he had broken limbs and scars all over his body.

It all started on Sunday, March 5 when the mother (name withheld for privacy of the child) visited her friend.

The said friend noticed something peculiar. The woman had covered the baby with heavy clothes yet it was a very hot day. Upon enquiring why that was the case, the woman said that the child was unwell.

A closer look at the child, she noticed that she was listless and not moving at all. At this point, she decided to uncover the child, and that is when she noticed the child had broken arms and legs and scars all over his body.

"The child also appeared to have been starving," says Usikimye, an organisation working towards ending the prevalence of sexual and gender-based violence (GBV).

    Mother from hell

At this point all hell broke lose as the woman threw the baby at her friend and took off with her other 3-year-old baby.

"So the friend screamed for help and they rushed the child to hospital. Our own Ruth and the cucu of the child are currently in hospital the child has been bandaged first to reduce movement and needs urgent surgery," reports Usikimye.

Usikimye says that doctors who have examined the child say the places where the bones are broken are already rotting and he may/has gangrene. Doctors say that further delay will mean the child will be amputated.

"Secondly the child genitals are swollen, the mother was hitting him there. The head is full of scars and more so after the XRay there are blood clots in his stomach."

Usikimye is now appealing for help from well-wishers to help in treating the child.

"Paybill 891300, Account -Usikimye, Mpesa Line 0718158400 Thank you for your support," Usikimye posted on its social media platforms.
