"DCI was receiving orders from above" - Matiang'i's lawyer

In Summary
- MP Otiende Amollo was one of the lawyers who accompanied former Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang'i to the DCI Headquarters on Tuesday, March 7.
- He claims that DCI sleuths were acting on instructions during the eight-hour grilling session of Dr. Matiang'i.
Rarienda MP Otiende Amollo now claims that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) was working under orders above them in the grilling of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i.
The lawmaker - who was one of Dr. Matiang'i's lawyers - claimed that the DCI was not acting on its own in the investigation.
"It is clear that this was not a criminal investigation. This was a vendetta and witch hunt. It is also clear that the DCI were not acting on their own motion," Amollo said.
Amollo has further accused the law enforcers of not having an idea of what to do with Dr. Matiang'i as "they had not received instructions at the time he arrived at DCI Headquarters."
He is now cautioning the Kenya Kwanza government against such moves saying they demonstrate that the country's democracy is not stable.
"Let this government know that when you think you are mistreating Dr Matiang’i as a person, you are lowering the standing of the office he held. You are demonstrating to everyone that we are not a stable democracy, we are going towards a banana republic," he added.
