Kenya Power denies switching off power at Coast General Hospital

The lives of patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and infants inside incubators at the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital are at risk following a power supply mishap.
The hospital's management had on Tuesday, March 7 accused the Kenya Power and Lightning Company (KPLC) of disconnecting power at the hospital over a KSh10 million debt.
Kenya Power denies cutting off
However, KPLC’s Coast Regional Manager Hicks Waswa denied the allegations, saying that the hospital is experiencing problem with its power connection, and that they are working to fix the problem.
"In the last one month Coast General paid KSh18 million and today we paid KSh2 million. We don't have a debt as such with Kenya Power. The only debt we have is what we consumed in January and February," a hospital administrator said.
The hospital is yet to pay electricity bills for January and February this year, amounting to KSh10 million.

The Mombasa County Government has been paying electricity bills for the hospital in phases.
