Man,60, dies by suicide over wife's alleged affair with 22-year-old man

A 60-year-old man in Mwea, Kirinyaga County has died by suicide after allegedly discovering his wife was having an affair.

His body was found hanging from the roof with a rope tied around his neck.

Henry Kariuki, Kiarukungu Village Chief, revealed that the deceased visited his office on Wednesday expressing disappointment about his wife's extramarital affair.

He was later alerted to an incident where a man had attacked his wife with a machete, only to find out it was the deceased who committed the act.

The wife was reportedly treated and discharged. She even went ahead to file a report at Wang'uru Police Station.

Chief Kariuki said that the man who appeared stressed about the affair had resolved to leave his wife.

Reports indicate that the woman was having an affair with a 22-year-old man who is a tomato vendor in the village.

"We didn't think things would end this way because he had said he had decided to leave the two to do whatever they wanted," the chief added.

Mwea East sub-county police commander Daniel Kitavi confirmed the incident, saying the deceased was supposed to appear at the station to record a statement only to be found dead.
