A lady from Kampala, Uganda who reportedly went missing on the eve of her wedding now says she did not like the man chosen by her parents.

Bushira Najjuuko, a resident of Kyengera Town Council in Wakiso district, is said to have gone missing on Saturday, March 11 and resurfaced on Tuesday.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, the 24-year-old appeared at Nsangi police station and identified herself as the missing bride-to-be.

"She told police that she was not interested in the man the family wants her to get married to. Najjuko told police that instead she was interested in another man whom the family doesn’t want," Onyango added.

Days after the search had been launched, the lady revealed that she spent the entire weekend at a friend's house in Zana.

Najjuuko also claimed to have returned the wedding attire which was catered for by the man's family.

"She told police that she bought the shoes and dresses with the money the family gave her for shopping and she sent a boda boda rider to take them home to show them that she doesn’t want the man," Onyango revealed.

While handing over the lady to her parents, the police boss disapproved of forced marriages.

"We appeal to parents not to force their children into marriages that they don’t want," he added.
