Popular Nairobi boda boda rider Kerom Ochenge alias Captain Kerom says social media propelled his business which started in 2019.

Speaking on Tuesday during TV47's breakfast show MorningCafe, Captain Kerom said he focuses on making deliveries within Nairobi and its environs.

"I was hanging around at the stage when I wrote a tweet saying that I can deliver anything. That tweet went viral and people began calling me," the rider narrated.

The 'viral' tweet reportedly got him his first client who was from the United States of America.

"I was entrusted with KSh52,000 to deliver to my client's parents," Captain Kerom said.

Four years later, he enjoys a fan base of 10,000 followers on Twitter and is seemingly working to achieve the same on the Facebook platform.

The rider advised the youth to take up any income-generating opportunities, saying he did the same before getting his big break in the boda boda industry.

"Before I began riding I was a sugarcane vendor pushing wheelbarrows around. That is where I got my first deposit and acquired my motorbike on loan. I was afraid they could take it away but I managed to finish payment within nine months," Captain Kerom explained.

The rider made headlines in March 2022 when he was reportedly locked up at Ngong Police Station after filing an assault report against two ladies.

"Was assaulted by two ladies and I reported to the police. Was called to go and check on the progress only to be thrown in the cell," he wrote on Twitter at the time.
