A family in Kware area, Embakasi South has appealed to the Nairobi county government for help in retrieving the body of kin who died by suicide in an open quarry.

The deceased, Francis Waweru, is said to have thrown himself into the quarry on Thursday morning.

Faith Mweu, sister-in-law to the deceased, said that the 34-year-old dropped off his children at school that morning and returned home.

"Waweru, who was in the company of a colleague, told his wife he was off to work and left some shopping money. After 30 minutes she received a call informing her of the incident," Mweu narrated.

Some of the locals allegedly attempted to retrieve the body but their efforts did not bear fruit.

"We are appealing for help to retrieve his body and proceed with his burial. His wife and kids are devastated," Mweu added.

According to the residents, the quarry that is over 60 feet deep, is covered with water and floating grass vegetation and has been a spot where numerous suicide cases have been reported.

The family is yet to establish reasons behind their kin's death.
