Why police want to exhume Jeff Mwathi's body

National Police Service Inspector General Japheth Koome has revealed that police will seek exhumation orders to investigate recent "unresolved deaths" in Kasarani Constituency.
Speaking during a press briefing on Sunday, March 26, IG Koome said that police will leave no stone unturned as they investigate each case, to establish whether they were murders or suicide. The police boss said that in the case of Jeff Mwathi, police will seek exhumation orders.
“There is one case we shall go to court for exhumation. We are told the victim jumped from an apartment, but we are looking at the area. We need to have that body exhumed, look at the dimensions. We are doing thorough investigations, including exhumation since the victim has been buried,” Koome said.

Other death incidents the police are prioritising include those of Brenda Kawira (February 21) and Joseph Kubende (March 23).
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said they have completed the first phase of investigations regarding the mysterious death of Mwathi.
"The process included the interviewing of the first cluster of witnesses in the case, forensic examination of the scene and retrieval of CCTV footages that captured the deceased's last moments," the investigative agency said in a statement on March 17, 2023.
Forensic experts assisting homicide detectives in the case reportedly collected crucial evidence which is also under examination.
DCI said the second phase will entail interrogation of several persons of interest and thereafter submitting recommendations to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
"We are in the meantime requesting the public to be patient as we endeavor to establish the circumstances surrounding Jeff’s untimely death," the investigative agency assured.
