IPOA launches investigations into shooting incidents during Azimio protests

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched a probe into the conduct of police officers during Azimio protests on Monday.
In a statement seen by TV47Digital, IPOA revealed they were focusing on four items of investigations.
One of the incidents includes the alleged shooting of two men by police in Kisumu County, where one man succumbed and the other sustained injuries.
In Migori, IPOA is looking into the shooting of a man allegedly by police.
"Two incidents in which police failed to provide adequate security to protect private property in Nairobi County," the authority added.
On Monday, Azimio leader Raila Odinga led in protests allegedly aimed at pushing the President William Ruto-led government into lowering the cost of living.
Police officers were spotted throwing teargas canisters and spraying water cannons at protesters in various parts.
IPOA assured of close monitoring to ensure individual accountability for "rogue" officers.
"The authority strongly calls upon the police to abide by the law in exercising their constitutional function of protection of life and property in line with the National Police Service Act, section 24 (d)."
