The Kenya African National Union (KANU) Party has condemned invasion of former President Uhuru Kenyatta's farm in Northlands City along Eastern Bypass, Nairobi, on Monday.
In a statement seen by TV47 Digital, KANU Secretary General George Wainaina termed the invasion as the first attempt by Kenya Kwanza politicians in actualizing their threat to take over the expansive Kenyatta family land.
"As a party, KANU was at the forefront of the struggle for independence, underpinned by the quest for self-reliance, individual liberty and national unity. Primarily, individual liberty is hallmarked by the private ownership of property," part of the statement read.
He urged any aggrieved Kenyans to direct their complaints through the judicial system instead of resorting to destructive means.
"...if anyone is aggrieved by private ownership of land, the country has robust policy, institutional, legal and constitutional frameworks that outline the acquisition, ownership and administration of land in Kenya and the means for adjudication of such issues. Therefore, if the property of the family of the former president can be invaded in broad daylight with no police response, what about the property of the common Kenyan?"
'Arrest goons immediately'
KANU called for arrest and prosecution of individuals involved in the looting and destruction of property at the farm.
"We cannot use the on-going protests by Azimio as an excuse to justify invasion of private property... KANU finds this trend very disturbing and calls on the relevant authorities to immediately institute measures to arrest and prosecute individuals who took part in the invasion. We cannot use the on-going protests by Azimio as an excuse to justify invasion of private property," the statement added.
The party further warned politicians against dragging Uhuru Kenyatta's name "to divert public attention whenever serious concerns are raised over the cost of living."
