Serial rapist who once escaped from a police station jailed for 310 years

A 29-year-old serial rapist has been sentenced by an Eldoret court to 310 years in prison.
Humphrey Shilisia was found guilty on four counts of robbery with violence, and one count of rape.
Shilisia would break into his victims' houses in the dead of night, rob, and in some instances rape them. The prosecution team comprising of Jamlick Muriithi, Miriam Sakari, and Lorna Anguria, produced compelling evidence that led to the conviction.
In August 2020, police launched a countrywide manhunt for Shilisia after he escaped from Langas Police Station, Eldoret.
Angry residents from Kapseret demonstrated over the escape, claiming that it had been aided by a police officer. Shilisia was eventually plucked from his hide-out in Shinyalu, Kakamega County, following a tip-off from members of the public.
One police officer from Langas Police Station was subsequently arrested.
