Leaders from western region are currently enroute to a funeral of Kakamega Member of County Assembly (MCA) who allegedly died as a result of political intolerance.

Stephen Maloba, Kisa East MCA, was allegedly stabbed to death amidst a confrontation between his supporters and those of an MP in Khwisero constituency.

The news was revealed by leaders from the region during a thanksgiving ceremony in Malava, Kakamega County on Saturday.

Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula said "we would like to stay here longer, but we can't. Apologies for that. An MCA has just passed away in Khwisero Constituency."

Supporters from Maloba's camp and that of an MP allegedly clashed and in the process he was fatally stabbed.

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa sought an apology from Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to leave the event saying he would be attending the MCA's burial.

The deceased was reportedly set to vie for the position under a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket but he ended up winning under the Kenya African National Union (KANU) flag.
