Five people have been confirmed dead after a vehicle they were travelling in was involved in a grisly accident in Kisii town.

The Saturday, April 1 evening accident happened when a 14-seater matatu from Kisii town hit a trailer head-on on the Kisii-Keroka-Sotik Road.

Confirming the incident, Keroka OCPD Robert Ndambiri says the PSV matatu - coming from the Kisii town direction - was avoiding to ram into a motorbike, unfortunately, it collided with the oncoming truck head-on.

"We have several other people injured and have been rushed to various hospitals in the area,” Ndambiri said of the accident that occurred around 7 pm.

Reports indicate that a Maranda High School student was among those who perished in the road accident. He was travelling home.

The injured were were rushed to Keroka District Hospital, St. Catherine Ichuni Mission Hospital and the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment.
