Online fury has greeted the release of a controversial video showing the wife of a popular DJ ingesting poison before collapsing and dying shortly thereafter.

Sharon Njeri Mwangi died on July 29 last year. She was buried at her parents’ home in Koimbe Weithaga village, Murang’a County, on August 6.

A video released by blogger Edgar Obare on Saturday April 1 apparently shows the last moments of Njeri, allegedly filmed by his fiancé Michael Macharia Njiri (aka DJ Brownskin).

Dressed in a gold and blue coloured tie-and-die fabric and baseball jacket, Njeri is seen holding a cup upon which she pours poison and proceeds to ingest without hesitation. She then paces forth and slumps onto a couch.

“Tell my kids I love them,” she mutters. “… nawapenda.”

She then calls her two kids Cherine Mumbi Arrian and Travis Njiri to alert them of her imminent death. “Mimi na-die.”

All the while, the person recording the video -we couldn’t independently verify whether it was Dj Brownskin as alleged- records every moment, and calls out the domestic househelp to bring her a glass of milk.

Njeri collapsed soon thereafter. She was rushed to hospital but she died.

The late Njeri and Dj Brownskin lived in Kariobangi South Estate, Nairobi. Born on December 23, 1989, to Albert Mwangi and Irene Mumbi, she was a sister to Benson Irungu and Shawn Mwaura.

The video has stirred online fury by Kenyans.

“He doesn’t even pause the recording,” notes Twitter user Subie Queen. “Tumekuwa na unyama hivyo????”

“But as a Matter of fact that's literally how our society is operating currently. We record every instead of intervening,” notes Generali Kiprotich.

On December 23 last year- late Njeri's birthday-, Dj Brownskin penned a long Facebook post describing his departed lover as "greatest treasure."

"I adore you with all I got. For this life I'm living, I'm gonna celebrate you day in day out. All the memories we created, they'll be forever be part of me and I'm gonna treasure every single moments forever,...From earth and beyond, happy birthday love," he added.
