The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has obtained CCTV footage revealing moments before discovery of a woman's body stashed in a sack in Ruiru, Kiambu County.

Morris Njuguna, the accused, was arraigned at the Ruiru Law Courts on Monday, April 24 over alleged murder of his wife Risper Ndunge.

According to the DCI, Ndunge's body was discovered by tenants of Mitikenda within Gatongora area of Ruiru on April 18. The landlord filed a police report at Gatongora Police Station prompting an immediate probe into the shocking incident.

Arrest

Three days later, Ruiru-based sleuths arrested Njuguna who allegedly confessed to the murder.

"The suspect has confessed to us that he indeed killed the wife on Monday last week. He later stashed the body of the deceased in a polythene sack and dumped it 500 metres from their rented house in Kamakis area, the same night," Ruiru DCIO Justus Ombati said.

Njuguna worked as a chef at an eatery in Kamakis along Eastern Bypass while the deceased was a cashier at the same joint. The two moved in about five months ago before the tragic incident.

Source of Conflict

"However, due to the nature of their duties, the man would be the first to arrive home before 10pm, while the deceased would be dropped home later in the devil’s hours at around 3am," the investigative agency said.

This became the biggest source of conflict as Njuguna accused his wife of infidelity.

When Ndunge arrived home on April 17, a fight broke out between the couple where the man allegedly hit her head causing her to bleed to death.

He reported to work as usual the following day and allegedly told his colleagues that the deceased quit her job and they were set to move to an undisclosed location.

Later that day, Njuguna reportedly bought a sack at KSh150 and left work earlier than his stipulated 10pm clock out time. He placed the deceased's body in a suitcase wholly before covering it up with the sack.

"The suspect then carried the lifeless body disguised as a luggage, and after one kilometre, disposed it outside the gate to a rental building, before walking off. CCTV footage obtained by detectives showed the suspect carrying the suitcase at around 9:35pm before dumping it," DCI explained.

Apparently, some of the tenants who saw him dump the sack discovered the body and reported the matter to their landlord.

Detectives are reportedly at the homestretch of their investigations "before charging him with murder contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the penal code."
