"I don't want to end up like Uhuru," - Why Gachagua is against handshake with Raila

Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua has admitted that he could lose his political stature should he agree to a handshake with Azimio leader Raila Odinga.
Gachagua was speaking during a food donation exercise in Wanjohi, Nyandarua County on Saturday.
"The President and I do not have a voice of our own in this country. We are mere employees. If we dare go against the wishes of our employers (the people) we lose our jobs. I have been listening to your opinions.
"I know that if I agree to the handshake it is over for me politically. I am a bright student. Our former president Uhuru Kenyatta was loved and much respected but when he got into a handshake with Raila things went south for him. I will not go down that path," the second in command reasoned.
Gachagua told off Raila saying he should wait to try his luck at presidency in 2027 or simply retire.
"Everything to do with power lies in the ballot. Then pray to God for blessings. You are now 80 years old. Why don't you pack and retire? Go home to your grandchildren," the DP said.
