Kenyans invited to view Mukami Kimath's body at Lee Funeral

  • Mukami - the wife to the late Mau Mau Field Marshall Dedan Kimathi - died on Thursday, May 4  at the of age 96 while receiving treatment after developing breathing difficulties. 

The National Organizing Committee on Wednesday, May 10 announced the burial arrangements of veteran freedom fighter and national heroine the late Mukami Kimathi.

The committee is being chaired by Interior Principal Secretary (PS) Dr. Raymond Omollo.

Mukami - the wife to the late Mau Mau Field Marshall Dedan Kimathi - died on Thursday, May 4  at the of age 96 while receiving treatment after developing breathing difficulties. 

The committee says there will be a public viewing of Mukami's body on Saturday, May 13 at Lee Funeral Home as from 6 am to 7 am. 

"Thereafter, the cortège will leave for the burial ceremony, which will be held on the same day at her rural home in Njabini, Nyandarua County, as per the family’s wishes," PS Omollo says in a statement.

Condolence Books will be available at Mukami's home in Njambini, Nyandarua, and Harambee House, Nairobi for those who wish to pay tribute.

"In consultation with the family, we have agreed that the funeral service will be held on Saturday at her home in Njabini, Nyandarua County. President Ruto will lead the government during the service,"  Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said in a statement on Sunday.

The DP also revealed that the late Mukami will be accorded a State burial.
