Shock as mother, 26, stabs her two-year-old son to death; daughter fighting for her life

Police officers in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, on Monday, May 22 arrested a woman suspected of stabbing her two-year-old son to death.

Twenty-six-year-old Christine Chepkogei is said to have stabbed her son to death at Generation area in West Indies Estate, on the outskirts of Eldoret town.

After killing her son, the mother of two reportedly tried to also murder her six-year-old daughter by stabbing. Fortunately, the daughter survived the attack and is currently recuperating at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Police say that Chepkogei tried to kill herself after the committing the atrocities before they arrested her.

Chepkogei confesses

Chepkogei who confessed to the incident cited a troubled marriage and depression as the trigger behind her actions.

She regretted her actions soon after the incident. Neighbours and friends attest that Chepkogei's marriage with her husband Rashid, with whom they had sired the now deceased son, was on the rocks for a long time.
