  • Being an ODM-led county, Wandayi claimed their political opponents had a hand in the unrest witnessed in Siaya county leadership.
  • "Furthermore, there are signs of a hidden hand of ODM opponents in the escalation of this unfortunate situation. These opponents having starved counties of their equitable share of resources, will capitalize on the slightest opportunity to kill devolution altogether," he added.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party has told Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol to resign after fallout with Governor James Orengo.

In a statement seen by TV Digital, National Assembly Majority Leader Opiyo Wandayi said the relationship between the two heads was irreparable.

"As things stand, the working relationship between the two leaders is irreparably broken down. We find ourselves in a bizarre situation where the Deputy Governor has lost confidence in his own government!" read part of the statement.

Being an ODM-led county, Wandayi claimed their political opponents had a hand in the unrest witnessed in Siaya county leadership.

"Furthermore, there are signs of a hidden hand of ODM opponents in the escalation of this unfortunate situation. These opponents having starved counties of their equitable share of resources, will capitalize on the slightest opportunity to kill devolution altogether," he added.

Consequently, the Majority Leader advised Oduol to resign from his position.

"It is my advice, both in my official capacity pursuant to Article 43 (1) (b) of the ODM constitution and a bona fide voter in Siaya, that Hon Oduol should tender his resignation without any further delay. This would then create room for Hon Orengo to appoint a replacement," Wandayi stated.

Oduol has been accusing Orengo of involvement in corruption within the county. This has seen unrest in the form of protests within Siaya from Oduol's supporters.

At the height of their long-standing dispute was an ugly and violent disruption at a funeral on May 13 between Orengo and Oduol's supporters.
