Kioni vows to challenge Kenya Kwanza in court over Uhuru's pension

In Summary
- Kioni said it was unacceptable for President William Ruto's allies to blackmail Kenyatta over the pension package.
- "You cannot force him to take the retirement benefits so that he does not do what he wants. In fact we will be going to court not because of Uhuru but because you cannot blackmail him to sell his rights," he added.
Embattled Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni now says they will be heading to court to challenge Kenya Kwanza over Uhuru Kenyatta's retirement benefits.
Speaking on TV47 News Tonight, Kioni said it was unacceptable for President William Ruto's allies to blackmail Kenyatta over the pension package.
"You cannot force him to take the retirement benefits so that he does not do what he wants. In fact we will be going to court not because of Uhuru but because you cannot blackmail him to sell his rights," he added.
The former Ndaragwa MP opined that Kenyatta had not even asked for the retirement benefits despite Kenya Kwanza drafting a bill to have him denied the same.
"If he has not asked for them why are they complaining that he is not taking the pension? Let the government use the money for other things. Kenyans need the money," Kioni argued.

He maintained that unlike the late Mwai Kibaki, Kenyatta was within his right to choose a different path after presidency.
"Uhuru is a role model. He has more work to do outside active politics like a president than when he was president. We have a generation of young people who are looking for who to be like. If you ask me he is a wonderful role model in terms of how do you serve the public," Kioni said.
Earlier this month, Gatundu South MP Gabriel Kagombe filed a motion seeking to suspend retirement benefits for Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka for remaining active in politics.
He argued that the President Retirement Benefit Act stipulates that the monies may be withheld or suspended in the event the designated officials violate the principles of the Act.
Kenyatta became eligible to retirement benefits since February as the law requires enrollment of the retiree’s funds six months after the general election.
