The armed thug, who was part of a gang, reportedly attacked two women identified as Patience and Juliet and attempted to ransack them.
Officers posted to Githurai Police Station heard their cries as they were heading back to the station to hand over to the next group of officers.
"They rushed towards the direction of the screams and arrived in time as the thugs armed with a home-made firearm capable of firing and sharp knives, manhandled the young ladies as they ransacked their pockets and handbags," the investigative agency adds.
Attempts to have the thugs release the ladies fell on deaf ears as one even fired a shot at the police officers.
This prompted the security personnel to shoot down the thug causing fatal injuries. His counterparts fled the scene leaving behind their knives and a handbag they had snatched from one of the victims.
