Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga who has been on the Directorate Criminal Investigation (DCI) wanted list, surrendered on Wednesday, May 24, and has been presented to a court in Nakuru.

Upon his arraignment, there was a brief confrontation as Njenga's lawyer - Ndegwa Njiru - attempted to block the police’s attempts to arrest his client.

Njenga was arraigned alongside 11 others to face various counts relating to being a member of an organised criminal group and engaging in organised criminal activities.

Detectives said they are seeking to interrogate Njenga over two illegal firearms and over 90 rolls of bhang found in his home.

“In the raid conducted at Ngomongo village in Dundori ward, the officers who arrested 8 suspects aged between 37 and 54 also found three rounds of 9mm blank ammunition hidden in one of the rooms," according to a DCI statement.

One of the firearms recovered was a homemade pistol capable of firing while the other one was a Tokarev, a type of pistol whose serial number had been vandalized.
