Detectives from the Serious Crime Unit on Wednesday, May 25 recovered elephant tusks weighing over 110 kilograms in Laikipia County.
One suspect identified as Alfred Gathecha has since been arrested by the police during the intelligence led operation.

The suspect will be arraigned in court to answer to charges of dealing in endangered wildlife species contrary to section 92(2) of the wildlife conservation and management act of 2013.
According to a police report, elephant tusks fetch a fortune in the black market because of demand for ivory in the East Africa. This continues to fuel the illicit trade in elephant tusks, especially from Africa.
The police are urging the members of the public to continue giving information regarding poaching of wildlife via the #FichuakwaDCI hotline 0800 722 203.
