COVID-19: 1,459 test positive as 17 succumb

The Ministry of Health has recorded 1,459 cases between Wednesday and Thursday. The total caseload in the country now stand at 74,145.

According to the Ministry of Health, cumulative samples tested in the country now stand at 815,040 after testing 10,146 samples in the last 24 hours.

From the cases, 1,419 are Kenyans and 40 are foreigners. 835 are males and 624 are females. In terms of age, the youngest is a four month old infant, the oldest is 97.

According to a report from the Ministry of Health to media houses, 1,116 patients are admitted in various health facilities in the country while 6.232 are on Home Based Isolation and Care. 59 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit. 27 are on ventilator support and 28 on supplementary oxygen.

83 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen out of whom, 67 are in the general wards and 16 are in the High Dependency Unit.

The new cases are spread across 34 counties as follows; Nairobi 472, Kiambu 311, Mombasa 108, Laikipia 63, Uasin Gishu 53, Busia 49, Kisumu 48, Meru 43, Nakuru 36, Kericho 33, Kisii and Kakamega has 29 cases each, Marsabit 17, Murang'a, Nyamira has 16 cases each, Kajiado 15, Garissa 13, Nandi nd Kituihas 12 cases each, Nyeri and Machakos has 11 cases each, Siaya and Bungom a has 10 cases each, Turkana and Kirinyaga has 8 cases each, Bomet 5, Trans Nzoia 4, Homabay 3, Makueni, Taita Taveta and Kwale 2 cases each, Isiolo and Tharaka Nithi has 1 case each.

780 patients have recovered from the disease. From the recoveries, 690 are from the Home Based Care Program while 90 have been discharged from various healthcare facilities in the country.
The total recoveries in the country now stand at 50,658.

Unfortunately, 17 patients have succumbed to the disease bringing total fatality rate to 1,330.
