Nick Cannon recently revealed the personal struggles he faced during his marriage to pop icon Mariah Carey.
Cannon opened up about the insecurities and self-doubt he experienced while being married to one of the world’s biggest stars.
Reflecting on their relationship, the Wild ‘n Out host, now 44, looked back on how being married to Carey, who is now 55, affected his sense of self.
“I didn’t really care what the world thought,” Cannon admitted.
“But when I looked at myself, I felt this pressure.
I kept wondering, ‘Who am I?’” He added, “I got married in my 20s—to the biggest star in the world.”
He described their career paths, gesturing downward to represent his own, while hers, he explained, was already “in a different stratosphere.”
Cannon shared that while he grew “comfortable” in their life together, he couldn’t escape a feeling of self-doubt.
The luxurious lifestyle was something he could joke about—”I’m waking up at noon, people bringing me steaks on a platter, and she’s got islands”
Beneath it was a question that lingered in his mind.
“I’d lay up at night thinking, ‘Is this who I am? Am I just Mariah’s man? Is that what my life is supposed to be?’”
The couple welcomed twins, Moroccan and Monroe, in 2011, and Cannon revealed how the family dynamic intensified his struggles.
“I’m carrying the diaper bag, standing on the corner, waiting.
She’s being the alpha, and she deserves it,” he said, acknowledging her strength and presence.
He even joked that while Carey needed an alpha partner, “I’m just not that dude.”
Despite the challenges, Cannon spoke with a sense of acceptance and understanding.
He highlighted the growth and reflection that have come from their time together.
Recognizing that their union, though marked by struggles, shaped who he is today.
