Nigeria national football team coach, Jose Peseiro, has extended his contract despite taking a pay cut.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), in a statement, said that Peseiro will lead the Super Eagles to the Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for January 2024 in Ivory Coast.
Initially, the 63-year-old was taking home $70,000 (KSh10.2 million) every month, but he will now be paid a monthly salary of $50,000 (KSh7.3 million). This is after the NFF said they could no longer afford his salary.
Further, the federation expects Peseiro to lead the team to finish at least in the semi-finals of the continental tournament.
Nigeria already qualified
Nigeria have already qualified for the tournament after amassing 12 points from five qualifying matches.
However, the three-time African champions will need at least a point against Sao Tome and Principe this coming weekend to cement first place in the group that also includes Guinea Bissau and Sierra Leone.
