Nigeria responds to President Tinubu’s fake degree certificate saga

NIGERIAWORLD

Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar has disclosed that the government has no time to waste on investigating President Bola Tinubu’s fake degree certificate case.

The Foreign Affairs Minister released a statement following unconfirmed reports that President Tinubu forged a certificate from Chicago State University in the United States.

Speaking during an interview with Channels TV Sunrise Daily program, Tuggar explained that the certificate saga involving the Nigerian president has no impact.

He maintained that the President was focused on service delivery and he had no time to waste on non-issues.

According to the Minister, the certificates saga was being pushed by his opponents who are out to cause distraction and mislead the public about the President’s academic qualifications.

“There is a tendency to always try to distract and detain people on such frivolous issues as opposed to facing the major issues of development. We don’t have time to waste on that,” he stated.

“Nobody is wasting time about certificate qualification for somebody who has been a governor of a state, served two terms, and has been on the national stage as a politician,” he added.

Tuggar explained that similar allegations were raised during former President Buhari’s regime as some individuals accused him of not going through a secondary school.

He narrated that the international community was not interested in the fake certificate discussions because they were baseless.

He also called on Nigerians to ignore such rumors and concentrate on tackling the economic challenges being experienced in the country.

“The economic challenges we are facing, we shouldn’t be wasting time about whether some certificate, whether there is a T missing or an I hasn’t been dotted,” he said.

The certificate forgery allegations against President Tinubu emerged after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the February, 2023 elections Atiku Abubakar requested that President Bola Tinubu’s academic records be made available by Chicago State University (CSU).

Atiku had filed an application to the US District Court in Northern Illinois.

Consequently, the Chicago State University released the president’s academic records to the petitioner on Monday, October 2.
