Nigeria are well on their way to clinching their fourth Africa Cup of Nations AFCON title after beating rivals South Africa 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out to book a 2023 AFCON finals spot.
The match ended 1-1 in normal time which saw the referee disallow a Victor Osimhen strike which would have put Nigeria 2-0 up after reviewing the Video Assistant Referee VAR . instead awarding a penalty to South Africa.
The match went to extra time following Teboho Mokoena’s conversion from the spot in the 90th minute to send the game into a goalless period of extra time where Bafana Bafana defender Grant Kekana was sent off late.

Meanwhile, Nigeria put the South Africans under constant pressure and then lost their nerve in the shootout soon after as Nwabali saved from Mokoena and Evidence Makgopa.
Stanley Nwabali earned Nigeria a place in the Africa Cup of Nations final after saving two penalties in a 4-2 shootout success over South Africa.
This as Kelechi Iheanacho scored the winning penalty.
