Burna Boy, Rema named best Afro Beat artists

Nigerian singer, songwriter, and producer Burna Boy accepted the award of the best AfroBeats artist of the year yesterday during the Billboard Awards on November 19, 2023.

Rema on the other hand won the ‘Top Afro beats song’ award on his ‘Calm Down’ remix featuring Selena Gomez.

The Billboards Awards recognized remarkable achievements on how the artists’ music was performing considering factors such as digital song sales, streaming numbers, radio Airplay, touring success, and fan engagement.

“Big up, Billboard Music Awards, big up to everyone involved. this is dedicated to Africa and every artist coming out of Africa now. This is for you and yeah, the future is bright. You guys are gonna see the vision. This is just a tip of the iceberg.,” Burna Boy said accepting the award.

Among the nominees on the list for the Afro beats category were Grammy award winner Wizkid, Tems, Rema, and Libianca.

The nominees for the Best Afro beats song were ‘Rush’ hitmaker Ayrra Star, Libiance –‘People’, Oxlade- ‘KU LO SA’ and Victony, Rema, and Tempoe ft Don Toliver with their song ‘Soweto’

Meanwhile, Morgan Wallen an American Country Music singer and songwriter emerged as the most awarded artist of the night, with 11 trophies for the top male artist, top Hot 100 artist, and top country artist among others.
