Nollywood Mourns Loss of Comic Legend, Mr. Ibu, at 62

Beloved Nollywood actor, John Okafor, widely known as Mr. Ibu, has left the entertainment world in mourning after passing away on Saturday, March 2, 2024.

The veteran actor, celebrated for his comedic roles succumbed to a cardiac arrest at Evercare Hospital in Lekki, Lagos.

Mr Ibu, who had been battling health issues since October 2023, faced the amputation of his leg due to blood clotting complications.

Despite seeking support from fans and the public for his medical bills, the actor’s health continued to deteriorate. He was moved to the intensive care unit a few days before his untimely demise.

The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas, confirmed the tragic news, expressing deep grief for the loss.

The entertainment community also grieved the recent loss of another actor, Quadri Oyebamiji aka Sisi Quadri, just 24 hours earlier in Osun State.

Emeka Rollas shared condolences on Instagram, emphasizing the Actors Guild of Nigeria’s somber day.

Other actors, such as Mercy Johnson-Okojie, reflected on the loss, saying, “It is well…rest well, sir.”

In his final years, Mr. Ibu faced challenges, with family disputes erupting over funds raised for his medical expenses and unfounded allegations marring his reputation.

However, fans and colleagues still celebrated his comedic talent and significant contribution to Nollywood despite these difficulties.

Mr Ibu’s death sparked heartfelt tributes on social media, celebrating his unique comedic style and the joy he brought to audiences.

As fans bid farewell to the legendary Mr. Ibu, a devoted Chelsea fan, his lasting legacy in Nigerian cinema will be cherished.

May his soul rest in peace and may his family find the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss.
