It is the end of the road for Peter Waithaka Macharia, a notorious criminal in Nairobi County.

The 35-year-old was on Tuesday, February 11 handed a 35-year-old prison sentence after he was convicted in an armed robbery.

During the crime that occurred on October 15, 2022, along Menelik Road in Kilimani Area, Angelos Tsekilas, a Greek national, tragically lost his life after being shot in the chest.

The armed gang, consisting of three men, also stole a range of items of unknown value from the victim before taking off on a motorcycle.

The DCI Kilimani undertook the investigations, which led to a breakthrough on October 21, 2022, when Peter Waithaka Macharia was flushed out his hideout in Gachie, Kiambu County.

Waithaka was identified on CCTV footage as the rider of the motorcycle that was used as a getaway for the gang.

“Upon processing, Macharia appeared before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kibera on December 28, 2022, where he was formally charged with robbery with violence under Section 296(2) of the Penal Code,” reports the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

Armed with watertight evidence, the prosecution presented it’s case before Hon. Kahuya where Macharia earned 35 years behind bars.

During the course of the case, it was revealed that Waithaka is wanted over a spate of armed robberies within the city.
