Nuru Okanga, Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s diehard sparked mixed reactions after sharing photos in school uniform announcing he had joined Form One.

The 32-year-old was part of the last Class Eight cohort who did their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam in 2023.

Despite much anticipation from Kenyans on his performance, Okanga remained mum about his results.

He would later however state in court that he scored 320 marks out of the possible 500 marks. At the time, he was arraigned for making derogatory remarks against President William Ruto.

As the candidates joined various secondary schools this January, Nuru Okanga shared photos donning a white shirt, beige windbreaker and grey trouser, saying he had also joined Form One.

“God of Okanga has done it again,” he wrote on Facebook.

Apparently, social media users pressed him to reveal why he chose a day school over boarding school yet he had performed well in KCPE.

In yet another post, Okanga outlined a number of reasons that came into play on why he opted for a day school.

“I have received hate and support in equal measures since I made it public that I have joined form one.I want to make it crystal clear that my marks was enough to join starehe boys and that was my wish but this is what made me join a day school…” he began.

For starters, the 32-year-old said he had a family and had to balance between work and school to fend for them.

Additionally, that responsibilities such as paying school fees lay on him.

“My wife needs me, service muhimu so no way I could go in a boarding school. My Kholera ward people and Kenyans needs me too. Now you know!” the Azimio supporter added.

In previous interviews, Okanga intimated that he sought to have a KCPE and KCSE certificate as he intended to run for a Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat in 2027.
