Critics of Nyali MP Mohammed Ali alias Jicho Pevu had accused him of lacking a residential house in his constituency.
The critics claimed that the Nyali MP has been operating from a hotel room since he was elected to parliament seven years ago.
In a video circulating on social media, Ali Mbogo, a politician in the constituency alleged that the former investigative journalist Jicho Pevu stays in Nairobi as he runs the affairs of Nyali from a hotel room.
“Mohammed Ali Jicho Pevu has no official residence in Nyali constituency and he has been operating from a hotel room for now seven years. As a results, it’s not easy for residents to access him,” stated Ali Mbogo.
The politician claimed that Jicho Pevu has a residence in Nairobi, far away from Nyali, the constituency he represents in the National Assembly.
“The Nyali MP only comes here in Nyali to attend political rallies and then stays at a beach a hotel for a few days before returning to Nairobi,” claimed Mbogo.
Mbogo emphasized that as a resident of Kazandani, within Nyali constituency, he has implemented many development projects for the people in the constituency, more than what the area MP has done.
The politician urged residents to hold elected leaders accountable by ensuring at least they serve the people on the ground, not from a hotel room or away in the capital city.
Mohammed Ali quit journalism to join politics in in 2017, when he contested for the Nyali parliamentary seat as an independent candidate.
He won the 2017 elections and later retained the seat in the 2022 general elections on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
