Police in Kitutu area, Nyamira County, are investigating an incident where a 25-year-old man is suspected to have murdered his grandmother before he was lynched by angry neighbours.
It is reported that Geoffrey Orina attacked his 66-year-old grandmother Rebecca Mokeira with a sharp object and killed her in cold blood.
Officers from Keroka Police Station visited the homestead in Bogeka village and found the lifeless body of the woman lying in her kitchen besides the fire place.
“The body has visible injuries on the neck suspected to have been inflicted using a sharp object and severe burnt wounds on the head,” a police report seen by TV47 Digital says.
But approximately 150 metres from the body of the woman, another body — that of Orina — laid.
“This is after members of the community suspected him to be responsible for the death of his grandmother,” the report adds.
It is reported that the neighbours pursued the man, overpowered him before beating him to death.
The two bodies of the deceased have been removed to Gucha Hospital Mortuary even as investigations continue.
