Nyandarua County poised to welcome its first ever university

The long-held aspiration for a university in Nyandarua County is tantalizingly close to fruition, following the successful completion of renovation efforts at the Ol Joro Orok Agricultural Training Centre (ATC), which is set to host the inaugural cohort of students.

During a visit to the university’s proposed site at the ATC Oljoroorok, Nyandarua Governor Dr. Moses Kiarie Badilisha expressed his administration’s steadfast commitment to bringing this long-awaited vision to life.

The governor’s inspection of the facilities highlighted the progress made in the renovation, which has seen an investment of KSh50 million, nearing completion and paving the way for student enrollment.

Governor Badilisha remarked, “We have allocated significant resources to develop the essential infrastructure needed for the university’s launch. Our long-term goal is to establish a main campus in Captain, with the aspiration of creating satellite campuses in other sub-counties. This dream is on the verge of becoming a reality.”

The renovated facility will accommodate up to 200 students and will offer a diverse range of courses, including Agribusiness, Commerce, and Sports Science, among others.

Reflecting on the community’s desire for higher education, Governor Badilisha stated, “For many years, it has been the dream of Nyandarua residents to have their own university. Previous administrations failed to realize this vision, but now, through the collaboration of my government, the county MCAs, and other elected leaders, we are on the brink of making this noble aspiration a reality.”

The Governor emphasized the importance of unity among all elected officials in the region to ensure the success of this initiative. He articulated that the university project transcends political affiliations and is fundamentally aimed at benefiting the residents of Nyandarua by providing quality education and fostering economic opportunities.

“I urge the five elected members of parliament to lend their support to this significant endeavor, setting aside political differences for the greater good of our people. Together, we can ensure that our community has access to affordable education,” Governor Kiarie concluded.

As Nyandarua County stands on the threshold of establishing its first university, the potential for transformative impacts on education and local economic development is immense, promising a brighter future for its residents.
