A section of Nyandarua County residents have criticized high-ranking government officials from Mt. Kenya region for interfering with leadership of the county.
Speaking during a press briefing on August 1, 2024 in Rurii Town, the residents stated that some individuals have been causing divisions among leaders in the county yet they are the same people calling for unity.
According to the residents, no one should impose leaders on them, since they have the right to elect leaders of their choice.
At the same time, they vowed to hold all leaders accountable for their actions and to judge them based on their development track record.
In addition, the locals claimed that some powerful government figures have been touring the county attempting to sow discord among local leaders under the pretext of “listening to the ground.”
“They have been coming to our county trying to tell us which leader to follow, claiming that they know what the ground wants.
“Sadly, we are the ground, and we know who our leaders are,” said Stephen Thuku, a youth leader from Nyandarua County.
His sentiments were echoed by Jeremiah Kariuki, who emphasized that no outsider should come to their villages and impose leaders on them.
The residents labeled the unnamed politicians as opponents of progress who seek to divide people in order to further their own personal interests.
“I wonder why some self-proclaimed Mt. Kenya leaders can be the ones causing divisions among local leaders and want to force some few leaders on us; here we are united under the leadership of President Ruto from top to Nyandarua County Woman representative Faith Gitau at grassroot level,” said Mrs. Grace Nduta.
Meanwhile, they urged Mt. Kenya leaders to unite and speak with one voice rather than participating in supremacy wars among themselves.
