A 65-year-old man from Nyeri County has undergone circumcision after it was discovered he had never participated in the Kikuyu community’s traditional rite of passage.

The revelation came after his lover reported the anomaly to the local elders, sparking widespread disbelief among the community.

The man, whose name has been withheld for privacy reasons, had successfully concealed his uncircumcised status for decades, even rising to the ranks of community elderhood, a position strictly reserved for initiated men.

His status came under scrutiny when his lover, reportedly frustrated by his deception, disclosed his secret to the council of elders.

According to the reports, the elders successfully carried out their plan for the elderly man to undergo the rite.

His wife is keeping a watchful eye on him while he recovers at home.

Since the 65-year-old was one of the community’s elders (Kiama) and had never been circumcised, the elders were very disappointed with him.

“My name is Gerald Kung’u from Kieni. We were so shocked because one of us, a 65-year-old, was uncircumcised for all these years.

We have been together as friends, and we did not know. When we got the reports, we went to confirm and later we accompanied him for the process,” Kung’u said.

“He is at home recuperating as his wife takes care of him until he is back on his feet,” he added.
