Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has come out to defend the statement he made on the Jamhuri Day celebration about the state of affairs at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport which has on two separate occasions been a victim of a national power outage affecting operations at Kenya’s Gateway.
The Governor said that President William Ruto is tirelessly working day and night yet other people in the government are lazying around.
He further called on the head of state to let go of government officials Embarssing him referring to Energy CS Davis ChirChir.
“Just the other day as I was coming from abroad lights were out, that CS should be fired in the morning,” he stated.
“And I want to state in broad daylight if they are lazy Kenya has 50 million people, and nobody should try to blackmail our president. If they are not working they should be fired,” he added.
However, the Nyeri county boss has now come out to deny that he demanded the firing of CS Chirchir stating that he called on the President to let go of the CS concerned with airports.
“I wish to clarify that I never demanded the sacking of CS Davis Chichir for the recent power failure in my Jamhuri Day speech. All I said is that I was with Waziri at the JKIA when the blackout happened. I said he frantically made calls to have power restored.”
“What I said and still maintain is that power failure in JKIA is a NATIONAL EMBARRASSMENT. I asked HE the President to sack the CS concerned with Airports. I also said that all Cabinet secretaries letting down the President must be shown the door.” Posted the governor on his social media handles.
“I reminded all and sundry that it cannot be business as usual if HE The President is in office at 6 am and doesn’t leave till midnight while the CSs he has given jobs continue letting him down! I still maintain this same stand!” He added.
CS Chirchir told the nation that the power outages are due to a trip in the power network in the county especially in the western region because of a lack of update in the network capacity.
