Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga sworn in as PSC commissioner

Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga has been sworn in as the new Commissioner to the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).

The swearing in ceremony was held at the PSC headquarters at County Hall on Wednesday November 27, 2024 and was presided over by Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula who is also the PSC chairman.

Wamatinga replaces Laikipia Senator John Kinyua who resigned recently.

Wetang’ula congratulated Senator Wamatinga upon assumption of his new position in the Commission, and urged him to adhere to the oath office that entails confidentiality, faithfulness and allegiance to the Constitution.

“I have known Senator Wamatinga as a steadfast politician who does not engage in the toxic politics of the country. I am confident that he will add tremendous value to the Commission,” said Wetang’ula.

Wetang’ula noted that commissioners are ready to work with Wamatinga as they discharge their constitutional mandate of addressing the welfare of parliamentarians and staff among other duties.

“We want you to settle very fast and support the commission’s role of promoting Inter-Parliamentary relationships with other arms of government which include the Executive and Judiciary,” he added.

He noted that PSC commissioners work as a team and hoped that he will join in the same spirit to deliver on their agenda.

The Speaker told Wamatinga that the commission will provide him with more opportunities that will enable him to serve the Nyeri people effectively.

“The position of a commissioner comes with extra benefits that will make you a better Senator to serve your people better,” he added.

Commissioners MP Mohammed Ali, MP Mishi Mboko and MP Patrick Makau welcomed Wamatinga to PSC and assured him of their unwavering support.

“I congratulate Wamatinga on your appointment. We at the Commission work as a team and we are sure you will strengthen the team,” said Mboko who is also the Likoni MP.

Meanwhile, Wamatinga in his acceptance speech said this was an exciting moment for him as a politician noting that he was grateful for the privilege granted to him.

“I take this opportunity to thank the Senate for approving my appointment to PSC” he said.
